Welcome to The Caribe.
We're not just another spot serving Caribbean food San Diego residents stop by once in a while. We're a veteran-owned, Black-owned restaurant in South Bay San Diego with a mission bigger than the menu.
Every single day, we unite cultures through food, music, and shared experience.
One kitchen. Multiple traditions. Zero compromise on authenticity.
What It Means to Be Black-Owned in San Diego

The Black-owned restaurant scene in San Diego tells a story of resilience, heritage, and flavor. From Southern soul food to Ethiopian injera, Jamaican jerk to Creole gumbo, Black entrepreneurs have shaped this city's culinary landscape for generations.
The Caribe adds a new chapter.
We honor the African diaspora by bringing Nigeria, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic under one roof. Our founder, a Navy veteran, built this place with a simple belief: food is the fastest way to cross borders without a passport.
When you search for black-owned restaurants in San Diego, you'll find establishments celebrating Southern classics, Ethiopian traditions, and Caribbean staples. We respect that lineage. We stand alongside it.
But we do something different.
We rotate daily.
The Daily Cultural Rotation: How We Keep It Fresh
Most restaurants pick a lane. We built a highway.
Monday: Nigeria takes center stage. Jollof rice San Diego enthusiasts know where to find the best. Smoky, savory, unapologetically bold. Pair it with suya-spiced proteins and fried plantains.
Tuesday: Jamaica brings the heat. Jerk chicken marinated in scotch bonnet fire, pimento, and island soul. Rice and peas on the side. Reggae in the air.
Wednesday: Puerto Rico delivers comfort. Mofongo, mashed plantains with garlic, pork cracklings, and a story in every bite. This is puerto rican food San Diego done right.
Thursday: Dominican and Latin fusion. Pernil, tostones, chimichurri, and Caribbean spice blends meet Latin boldness.
Friday: The vibe shifts. Nightlife mode activated. DJ sets, craft cocktails, and a menu that fuels the energy.
Saturday: We transform into your private event space. Birthdays, engagements, reunions, South Bay San Diego comes together here.
Sunday: Today. The day we tell our story. Veteran roots. Black-owned pride. A mission to unite.
This rotation isn't a gimmick. It's respect. Each culture gets its moment. Each dish gets the spotlight it deserves.
Veteran-Owned Roots: Discipline Meets Flavor

Military service teaches you a few things.
Discipline. Attention to detail. The importance of teamwork. A commitment to mission over ego.
Our founder brought all of that from the Navy to The Caribe. This isn't a hobby business. It's a calling.
Veterans understand what it means to serve. In the military, you serve your country. At The Caribe, we serve our community, one plate, one song, one celebration at a time.
We built this restaurant with precision. Every recipe tested. Every spice measured. Every playlist curated. The same focus required to navigate a ship applies to running a kitchen that honors multiple cultures daily.
And we stay ready.
Ready for the Monday lunch rush hunting jollof rice San Diego can't stop talking about. Ready for the Friday night crowd that turns our dining room into a dance floor. Ready to host your life's biggest moments in our event space.
Being veteran-owned means we don't quit. We adapt. We serve. We deliver.
Food as the Universal Language

You can't argue with someone while eating their grandmother's recipe.
That's the magic of food. It bypasses politics, borders, and assumptions. It speaks directly to memory, comfort, and joy.
At The Caribe, we use that magic intentionally.
African food San Diego options have grown in recent years, from Ethiopian bistros to West African pop-ups. Caribbean spots serve Jamaican patties and oxtail. Puerto Rican restaurants offer mofongo and alcapurria.
But how often do they share the same space? How often can you taste Nigeria on Monday and Jamaica on Tuesday without changing locations?
We built The Caribe to be a cultural crossroads. A place where the African diaspora isn't fragmented, it's celebrated together. Where a customer can discover jollof rice one week, fall in love with mofongo the next, and bring friends for jerk chicken the week after that.
This is how understanding grows. One meal at a time.
Music Moves the Mission Forward
Food fills the stomach. Music fills the soul.
We don't just play background noise. We curate the soundtrack to match the culture of the day.
Afrobeats on Jollof Monday. Reggae and dancehall on Jerk Tuesday. Salsa and bachata on Mofongo Wednesday. By Friday, the DJ takes over and the restaurant becomes a nightclub.
Music and food are cousins. Both tell stories. Both create emotion. Both bring people together in ways words can't.
At The Caribe, you don't just eat, you experience. The playlist, the decor, the energy, it all shifts with the daily rotation. Step inside on a Monday, and you're in Lagos. Come back Thursday, and you're in Santo Domingo.
Same location. Different journey every day.
Why South Bay San Diego Needed This

South Bay deserved a space that reflects its diversity.
San Diego's Black-owned restaurant scene has incredible depth, soul food in North Park, Ethiopian in City Heights, Jamaican spots scattered citywide. But South Bay San Diego? It needed something bold. Something different.
The Caribe answers that need.
We're located at 5080 Bonita Rd Suite H–K, Bonita, CA 91902, a spot designed to bring people together. Close enough for locals. Worth the drive for anyone searching caribbean food San Diego or african food San Diego done authentically.
We're not competing with other Black-owned spots. We're adding to the story. Expanding the options. Giving South Bay a reason to stay local for world-class flavors.
The Mission: Unity Through Experience
Strip away the business talk. Forget the marketing.
Here's the truth: The Caribe exists to unite people.
Food, music, and shared space create connection. We see it every week. Strangers bond over jollof rice debates. Couples discover mofongo for the first time. Families celebrate milestones in our event space. Friday night regulars become friends on the dance floor.
This is what Black-owned businesses do. We don't just serve products. We build community. We create space for culture. We hold the line for authenticity while welcoming everyone through the door.
Being black-owned restaurants in San Diego means carrying responsibility. Responsibility to represent cultures accurately. Responsibility to employ fairly. Responsibility to give back.
We take that seriously.
Every dish we serve honors someone's heritage. Every playlist respects the artists who created the sound. Every event we host creates memories that last.
That's the mission. Unity through food. Connection through music. Community through shared experience.
